WIFA Inter District Championship: Bhandara edge Aurangabad 4-3, Gondia, Dhule win big

In a high scoring tournament opener, Bhandara came from two goals behind to beat Aurangabad 4-3 while Dhule, Gondia kicked off their respective campaign with huge dominating wins

WIFA Inter District Championship kicked off yesterday August 1 at KVM Ground, Palghar District. The opening day hosted 5 games with Aurangabad vs Bhandara kicking the tournament off.

It was a perfect start as the two teams played out a thriller of game. Shreya Ingule put Aurangabad in front early in the first half before Monu Veike levelled thing up around the half-hour mark. Shreya then doubled the lead at the stroke of half time before completing a well-deserved hat-trick early in the second half.

However her hat-trick went in vain as Bhandara struck back with three quick goals in the space of eight minutes to take the lead going into the final ten minutes. First Pooja reduced the deficit before Taruna scored the equalizer. Monu then completed her brace three minutes later to put her side in lead as the game eventually ended in favor of Bhandara.

In the 2nd game of the day, Gondia made short work of Beed with a 10-0 hammering. Tripti Deep scored a quick first half hat-trick while Archana and Ashwini struck a brace. At half time, Gondia had already gone 8-0 up. Post the break, Beed decided to do damage control and conceded just two more as the match ended at 10-0 much to their respite.

Match three saw another one-sided game as Dhule decimated Nanded with 14-0 win. Yashashri Sonawane stole the show with a double hat-trick including 5 goals scored in the space of 11 minutes in the second half. Muskan teli, Kavita Choudhari chipped in with hat-tricks too with Kamal Dhole added a brace to her name.

In Match 4, Thane faced off against Ahmednagar with the latter registering 4-0 win to start their campaign. After a cagey start from both sides, Mamta Prajapati opened the scoring in the 26th minute, before Bhoomi doubled the lead in the first minute of second half. Vidhisha Sawant then struck a quick-fire brace in 44th and 46th minute to put the game to bed.

The last game of the day saw Amravati take on Wardha, Radhika Mahase opened the scoring early on in the first half to put Amravati in lead but Wardha struck back quickly through Shabana Qureshi strike as both side entered the break with scores level. After another intense first twenty minutes in the second half, Amravati level up to strike three quick goals courtesy of Savita Nemade’s brace and Komal Dhole strike to take the game home comfortably.
