Sibani Sharma’s late strike helps PIFA Sports to overcome Bodyline SC

A sublime goal in the 77th minute by Sibani Sharma gave PIFA Sports an all-important win against PIFA Sports in IWL – Preliminary Round.

22nd September 2017, Mumbai: On Matchday 15, PIFA Sports locked horns against an in-form Bodyline SC side in the Preliminary Round of Indian Women’s League (IWL) at Cooperage Stadium on Friday evening. In what turned out to be a spectacular match, a goal in the 77th minute by Sibani Sharma gave PIFA Sports all three points which have surely boosted the whole side.

Right from the kick-off, PIFA Sports looked composed and sharp as they pressed high up the pitch to create chances. Suparna, Jyoti and Deepika kept on threatening Bodyline’s backline who looked shaky for the major part of the match.

PIFA’s forward Jyoti could have opened the scoring in the 27th minute when her effort from outside the box sailed past the post. She was set-up by Suparna who brilliantly found her partner in crime with an inch-perfect through ball.

A couple of minutes later, it was Suparna’s turn to fancy her luck. Controlling the long ball at the edge of the box, she brilliantly turned towards the goal and unleashed a powerful strike which only managed to hit the side netting.

PIFA carried their fine display in the second-half and created several opportunities to open the scoring, but Bodyline SC somehow held on to keep the score all square.

Bodyline SC almost broke the deadlock later when against the run of play Bhagyashree Dalvi managed to danced past couple of defenders, only to see her effort superbly denied by PIFA’s part-time goalkeeper Rani Bhowmick. A big round of applause was followed by the handful of spectators shortly after Rani’s fantastic save.

Just when everyone thought that the match is heading towards a stalemate, PIFA’s Sibani Sharma scored a sublime goal in the dying minutes of the match to snatch all three points for PIFA.
