A splendid second-half display gives Kenkre FC all three points

17th September 2017, Mumbai: On the 14th Matchday of WIFA Women’s League – Indian Women’s League (IWL) Preliminary Round, Kenkre FC met PIFA Sports in an anticipating clash at Cooperage Stadium. In the corresponding fixture, PIFA Sports had defeated Kenkre FC 3-2 to snatch all three points.

In what turned out to be a closely-contested clash, Kenkre FC managed to overcome PIFA Sports 2-0, courtesy of a splendid second-half display where Diparnika Dey and Manisha scored one each to give Kenkre FC an all-important win.

Right from the beginning of the game, PIFA and Kenkre were quite compact in their defensive structure. Both the sides sat back and soaked the pressure from the attackers in hope to launch a counter-attack against the run of play. PIFA’s Suparna came agonizingly close to open the scoring when she was set up by Sneha Manchkar on the right flank. Although, Suparna only managed to hit her effort wide of the post.

Meanwhile, on the other end, Kenkre’s forward Mamta wreaked havoc after coming close on numerous occasions. She has been on an incredible form throughout the Campaign along with attacker Manisha. At the break, the score was still locked at 0-0.

The second-half brought fortunes for Kenkre as they stepped up their intensity and tempo to slowly dictate the match proceedings. Just before Suparna and Deepika Masurkar missed a glorious chance for PIFA, Diparnika Dey scored a sublime goal on the other end to give Kenkre FC a crucial lead.

With the time running out, Kenkre FC was awarded a free-kick just outside the box. Manisha took advantage from the initial cross, made a twisted turn into the box and scored Kenkre’s second goal of the game to wrap up the game in a stellar way.
