Palghar, Nashik enter Pre-Quarters; Mumbai, Host Pune win big in their opening fixture

Both Palghar and Nashik pick back-to-back wins to enter Pre-Quarters while Mumbai and Host Pune win big in their opening fixture of the ongoing WIFA Inter District Football Championships.

On Day 1 of the competition, an injury-time strike from Pragnesh Shetty helped Palghar edge past Raigad in their opening-round encounter. This was followed by a comprehensive 6-0 win over Washim courtesy of Keval Pagdhare’s hattrick and one goal each from Rohan Dalvi, Jay Meher, and Saiyam Meher. Palghar are now set to face off against Last year’s runner-up team Nagpur in the Pre-quarter final game.

Nashik at the other end has started out with two comprehensively earned victories as they first defeated Gadchiroli 5-0 followed by today’s 5-1 win over Latur courtesy of a first-half brace from Shubham Dayma while Vedant, Govind, and Pintya added one each in the second half. Nashik has a tough task at hand in the next encounter as they are set to face off against defending champions Kolhapur.

Nanded, Aurangabad, Solapur and Wardha all made it to next round courtesy of wins via Penalty shoot after managing a draw in their respective fixtures. Meanwhile Thane, Prabhani, Dhule, Ratnagiri, Sangli registered comfortable wins to move to next round.

Mumbai rocked the tournament with a massive 16-0 win with three of their players – Arif Shaikh, Himanshu Patil and Johnson Mathew striking hat-trick of goals. Host Pune too made their presence felt in the competition with a solid 8-0 win over Beed
