Santosh Trophy: Manipur edge Maharashtra 2-1 in a nail-biting clash

In a riveting showdown at the 77th Santosh Trophy, Maharashtra and Manipur engaged in a spirited battle that left spectators on the edge of their seats. The clash, held as part of the group stage, unfolded with intensity and showcased the prowess of both teams.

Manipur, initiating the kickoff, set a lively tempo early on. In the 13th minute, Maharashtra seized the lead as Azfar Noorani’s header found the mark, converting Satish’s precise cross into a goal. However, Manipur was quick to respond, with Rojen Meetei leveling the score at 1-1 just before halftime, courtesy of Maibam Singh’s well-delivered corner.

The second half witnessed sustained energy from both sides. Pebam Renedy and Sanathoy’s dynamic plays kept the spectators enthralled. In a thrilling climax, Kabiraj Singh’s spectacular goal from a considerable distance secured Manipur’s triumph in the dying minutes.

Despite Maharashtra’s relentless attacks, Manipur’s resilient defense proved decisive, sealing their victory and propelling them to the top of the group B standings. Maharashtra meanwhile still remains in the 2nd spot and in the race of Semi-finals. The match was marked by close calls, standout performances, and an atmosphere of fierce competition.
