Maharashtra kickoff Santosh Trophy campaign with 3-1 win over Mizoram

In the opening game of the final round group stage match of 77th season of the Santosh Trophy at The Golden Jubilee Stadium, Yupia, Maharashtra emerged victorious against Mizoram. The Group B clash showcased an intense battle between the two teams, with Maharashtra securing a 3-1 win.

Maharashtra, adopting a classic 4-3-3 formation, displayed early dominance in possession. In the 26th minute, Advait’s spectacular step-overs initiated by Mohammed’s precise pass, found the back of the net, giving Maharashtra a 1-0 lead. Mizoram attempted to respond with Dawngliana orchestrating attacks but Maharashtra’s defense, led by goalkeeper Malhar Mohol, thwarted their efforts

The first half concluded with Maharashtra holding a one-goal advantage. The second half witnessed Mizoram’s determination to level the score, but Maharashtra’s resilient defense held firm.
In the 77th minute, Himanshu Patil’s shot from a tight angle deflected off a Mizoram defender, resulting in an own goal and extending Maharashtra’s lead to 2-0.

As the match entered its final moments, Mizoram rallied with Lalruatfela assisting Malsawmzuala to score a goal, narrowing the gap to 2-1. Mizoram intensified their attacks, desperately seeking an equalizer. However, in additional time, Maharashtra sealed the victory as Himanshu’s run into the box led to an assist for Deepak Patil, securing a 3-1 triumph.

With this win, Maharashtra earned three crucial points kicking off their Santosh Trophy – final round campaign in style
