The Maharashtra Senior Women’s National Team left for Bokhaghat this morning to participate in the Senior Women’s National Football Championship.
The Maharashtra team has been drawn in Group A for the tournament along with Manipur, Railways, Chhatisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, and Madhya Pradesh.
The girls were shortlisted from the Maharashta Inter-District Women’s Championship that was held at Nagpur earlier this month. The training camp for the girls was held at Cooperage Football Ground for the past two weeks.
The coach of the team is Ms. Severin Godinho and Mr. U Banerjee is the Manager. Ms. Laura Estebeiro has been named captain.
“We have a very tough pool but we will do our best and we have faith that we can do well. We have received strong support from the districts and WIFA and we hope to make them proud. We will give our 100% on the field, the rest is up to God” said Captain Laura Estebeiro on the team’s chances ahead of their departure.
Coach Severin was upbeat about the team’s chances, “I would say that our team is ready to face the difficult teams in our group with pride, no matter what the results have to say. Hard work counts and the rest we leave it to the almighty.”
They play their first game on 1st against Chhatisgarh, then take on Railways on 3rd May, followed by Manipur on the 7th and play their last group game on Uttar Pradesh on 9th May.
