WIFA Inter District Championship: Mumbai, Kolhapur, Pune and Nagpur book Semifinal spot

Mumbai win big and Kolhapur knocked out Gondia to book semi-final spots while Pune edge host Palghar by a solitary goal margin.

Mumbai rode on Akansha and Valencia hat-trick to rout Dhule by a 10-0 margin stamping themselves as favorites for the competition. Day 3 began with Mumbai taking on Dhule in the first Quarter-finals of the competition.  Karen Pais kicked off the proceeding with the opening goal in just the 2nd minute. Post the opening goal, Akansha and Valencia got into the attack producing a spree of clinical finishes as slotting home six more goals before the half-time break.

Post the break, Shreya Bhat and Bhagyshree chipped in with one each while Karen added one more to her tally to make it 10-0.

In the second game of the day, Nagpur were given a win by the committee after a formal protest was registered against Buldhana’s team.

In the 3rd Quarter-final, Kolhapur edged past Gondia courtesy of goals from Sanika Patil and Vaishnavi Dombale. Gondia had come into the game with a couple of good wins but were rocked hard early after goals from Sanika and Vaishnavi to put Kolhapur in front foot. Sanika then added one more late in the 2nd half to put the game to bed.

In the final quarterfinal encounter, host Palghar gave a tough fight to Pune to failed to find the net as the match ended in favour of Pune. After a goal less first half, Muriel Adams struck one past the keeper to put Pune in lead in the 50th minute. A franatic final 10 minutes failed to yield any goals as Pune walked away with the win.

12:30 PM – Match 3 – Kolhapur (Sanika Patil 20’, 67’, Vaishnavi Dombale 28’) 3 – 0 Gondia

3 PM – Match 4 – Palghar 0 – 1 Pune (Muriel Adam 50’)
