The grand finale between Mumbai and Pune turned out to be one of the most thrilling matches of the tournament. Even heavy rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of the players, who showcased tremendous talent and determination on the field.
Mumbai got off to a dream start in just the 2nd minute, when Nishika Prakash unleashed a stunning long-range strike that flew into the top corner, giving her side an early lead. Despite conceding, Pune refused to lose hope. They took control of the game, creating several chances. Mumbai’s goalkeeper pulled off some brilliant saves, while the defenders put their bodies on the line to maintain the lead. The first half ended 1-0 in Mumbai’s favor.
The second half, however, witnessed a completely different Pune side. Playing with confidence and intensity, they kept pushing for the equalizer. In the 59th minute, Mumbai defender Shubhisha fouled a Pune attacker just outside the box. Payal Kothari stepped up and curled in a sensational free-kick to level the score 1-1.
Pune continued to dominate, with Ritika and Payal missing a few golden opportunities in front of goal. Mumbai, on the other hand, struggled to create meaningful attacks.
As the game entered its final stages, the decisive moment arrived in the 90th minute. Referee awarded Pune a penalty after Seno was fouled inside the box. Ritika Singh calmly slotted the ball into the keeper’s right corner, putting Pune ahead 2-1.
Despite 4 minutes of added time, Mumbai failed to find the equalizer. At the final whistle, Pune celebrated a historic victory and were crowned Champions of the WIFA Inter-District Senior Women’s Championship.
3rd Place Match – Ahmednagar vs Yavatmal
Ahmednagar dominated the bronze medal clash against Yavatmal from start to finish. Sumaiya Shaikh stole the show with a brilliant hat-trick, while Tanisha Shirsul added another goal to seal a convincing 4-0 victory. Ahmednagar claimed third place in the tournament.
