WIFA Women’s Football League: Bodyline SC win big against Deccan XI

The opening encounter of the Hero Indian Women’s League Maharashtra Qualifiers hosted Deccan XI and Bodyline SC at the Cooperage Stadium, Mumbai.

Bodyline SC thoroughly dominated the game as they romped to a lethal 8 goal victory against their opponents. Since the starting whistle of the game, team Bodyline were clear favourites. The team looked compact and displayed an attacking style of play. The first half concluded seeing Bodyline SC leading by a massive five-goal lead. Deniese Pereira ran the show in the first half scoring a hattrick. The other two goals came from Ash Mearl D’Silva and Ameeta who eventually went on to score a hattrick after the second half ended.

Nothing changed in the second half. Bodyline SC maintained the momentum and went on to score three goals more.

However, Head Coach Marcellus John expected much better from his outfit. “With the number of matches and the exposure these girls have gained, I expected them to score more. I’m happy with the result but I think the scoreline could have been bigger,” he quipped.

For the first time, 18 teams from Maharashtra are taking part in the Hero IWL Qualifiers. Mr John explained with great passion how delighted he was to see the women’s game grow at this stature. “I’m extremely happy to see the increased participation. It was my dream to see the women’s game growing in the nation. I have been promoting my team for years. I think the next year’s U-17 Women’s World Cup has played a major role in creating awareness and developing the game for women.” said the Head Coach of Bodyline SC.

In tomorrow’s fixture, Community Football Club of India is set to face Utkarsh Krida Manch FC in a Group A fixture at the Cooperage Stadium, Mumbai starting from 2:oo PM.
