The Western India Football Association (WIFA), responsible for the promotion of the game in the state of Maharashtra, took a giant step towards creating a lasting footballing legacy with the launch of Manchester United Soccer Schools (MUSS) coaching program at their headquarters at Cooperage on the 24th of November.
The Western India Football Association and the world’s best known club, Manchester United have joined hands to make available to every aspiring young footballer the world’s best club-sanctioned coaching program. The Manchester United Soccer Schools coaching program is developed by the highly acclaimed Manchester United Academy to offer training sessions to students and provide an opportunity to develop their football skills in a positive, safe and fun learning environment.
This ambitious new partnership will throw open a whole new vista of opportunities for young players and coaches and will go a long way towards increasing the popularity of the game and producing a huge pool of talented young players and high quality coaches.
The Manchester United Soccer Schools will be hosted by WIFA at Cooperage, making use of specially created mini fields of Astroturf.
The Manchester United Soccer Schools program was launched by Shri Praful Patel, the President of the Western Indian Football Association and the All India Football Federation in the presence of David Gill, the CEO of Manchester United and Henry Menezes, CEO of WIFA.
“We are excited to be working with the current EPL champions Man Utd,” said Mr. Praful Patel, President, WIFA, “Young footballers will be training under the direct supervision of coaches of world acclaimed Manchester United Academy. This is intense still fun football development programs that will significantly improve the skill at the young age. We believe that this partnership will nurture talents, inspire youth and provide them with the opportunity to realize their own potential.”
The Manchester United Soccer Schools will be a skills development, non-residential coaching program with five training modules.
Under this new partnership, annual Scholarships will be provided to 100 deserving youngsters and 100 coaches, who will be picked after talent identification drives, conducted throughout the state jointly by WIFA and Manchester United Soccer Schools.
Another initiative will see WIFA and Manchester United Soccer Schools conducting free outreach programs across schools in Mumbai. Talent created through the Manchester United Soccer Schools will help provide players across 330 clubs and 900 odd school/college teams in Mumbai. The outreach program will also be extended to the districts of Maharashtra State, resulting in a massive increase in the standard of football.
Football in the city and state will also benefit from the world class infrastructure that Manchester United Soccer Schools will invest in at Cooperage Football Ground for their own facilities. This infrastructure will include artificial turf, flood lights, dressing rooms structured to the highest standards, and a host of other facilities to give the trainees a quality experience while learning to play the game in the best possible manner.
Manchester United Soccer Schools will offer kids aged between 8 to 17 years a chance to train under their best coaches and trainers. The training program will be based on their tried and tested principles of coaching i.e. Technical, Tactical, Physical, Mental and Social.
