Sub-Junior Girls Championship in Jalgaon: Nashik & Satara prevails

10th February 2018, Jalgaon: With the Junior and Sub-Junior Boys Championship running simultaneously at Palghar and Nanded, respectively, the Sub-Junior Girls Championship went underway yesterday in Jalgaon at Shree Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Krida Sankul. The opening day witness only two games where Nashik and Satara booked their place in the next round with comprehensive victories.

Nashik (Payal Dode 37′ and 49′) 2-0 Yavatmal

In the opening game, Nashik had to rely on Payal Dode who scored twice in the second-half to send Nashik into the next round of Sub-Junior Girls Football Championship.

The first-half was all about Nashik’s attack and Yavatmal’s Goalkeeper Shreeja Chavan who was tremendous throughout the game. Unfortunately, Shreeja’s heroics in the first-half couldn’t help her side as they bowed out with their heads held high. Shreeja Chavan (Yavatmal) and Payal Dode (Nashik) were later felicitated for their impressive performance.

Aurangabad 0-4 Satara (Sanika Sapkal 2, Vaishnavi Sawant and Snehal Ghadge)

In the second match, an outstanding attacking display by Satara saw them clinching a memorable 4-0 win over Aurangabad. Sanika Sapkal scored twice while Vaishnavi Sawant and Snehal Ghadge scored one each which guided Satara into the next round. Sanika was later felicitated for her two goals.

Aurangabad had a great first-half but Satara’s backline stood strong and defended brilliantly to keep the danger out of their penalty box. A couple of misses in the first-half came back to haunt Aurangabad when Satara went all-in and scored four times in the second-half.
