State cops, G.M. Franco record wins

Maharashtra State Police (MSP) overcame Central Bank of India by a narrow 2-1 margin in a MDFA Super Division play-off match, at St Xavier’s ground, Parel on Thursday.

In an evenly contested encounter, Maharashtra Police took the led through Farhaz Shaikh’s goal in the 21st minute before Melwyn Vaz scored the equalizer for Central Bank in the 38th minute. Parag Sawant netted the winners for the policemen in the 78th minute.

Later, G.M. Franco East Indians defeated Dena Bank by a comfortable 4-2 margin. Nigerian striker Michael Idewewi struck a brace while Rohit Mukul and Pawan Bhagwat got the other two goals for the winners. Wendyl Dias and Arshad Ansari were on target for the losers.
