Pune Crowned Champions at WIFA Junior Girls Inter-District Championship

The WIFA Inter-District Championship for Junior Girls 2024 concluded at the Jalgaon StadiumPune emerged as the champions after a hard-fought final against Mumbai, securing a 1-0 victory. The tournament showcased the burgeoning talent in junior women’s football across Maharashtra, culminating in an exciting final showdown.

The journey to the final saw intense competition throughout the knockout stages. In the semifinals, Mumbai edged past eventual third-place finishers Thane with a narrow 1-0 win, while Pune overcame Kolhapur 2-1 in a closely contested match. The third-place playoff saw Thane, the defending champions, bounce back to claim the bronze medal with a 1-0 victory over Kolhapur.

Individual brilliance was also recognized at the championship. Prisha Viral from Mumbai was awarded the Best Striker title, while Sharvari Ajit Mane from the champions Pune was named the Best Player of the tournament. Nyasa Bondre from Thane was recognized for her solid defense, earning the Best Defender award, and Asawari Rajaram Patil from Kolhapur was lauded as the Best Goalkeeper.

The WIFA Inter-District Championship for Junior Girls provided a valuable platform for young footballers to showcase their skills and compete at a high level, highlighting the promising future of women’s football in Maharashtra.
