Mumbai Football Club, one of India’s top professional football clubs is happy to announce that under our community development plan, we will be organizing the Independence Cup 2014, along with our partner, Your Day Events.
The event will be held on the Independence Day 2014 weekend (August 15th-16th 2014) at the Inorbit Mall turf in Malad, Mumbai. It is and a 5-a-side tournament with 32 teams vying for the Cup as well as prizes worth Rs. 80,000. The open tournament will have teams from all over Mumbai and India’s top sports broadcaster, Ten Sports, is the Sports Channel Partner and will be awarding goodies worth Rs. 50,000 to the winners. Killer Jeans is one of the Associate Sponsors of the event.
The Mayor of Mumbai, Mr. Sunil Prabhu is expected to be present for the finals. His presence is seen as an endeavor to promote the beautiful game.
The Mumbai FC Head Coach Khalid Jamil along with the Manager, Henry Picardo will be present for the finals, while Mumbai FC scouts will be monitoring all players for the two days of the tournament. Coach Khalid Jamil says,” This is a great initiative and such events would go a long way in engaging the vibrant football community of Mumbai. We will always keep an eye open for any talent that we might find through such platforms.”
This tournament kick starts Mumbai FC’s community development plans. Commenting on the same, Atul Badgamia, Dy. The first day will see all the 32 teams compete against each other. The following day, 16 teams that have advanced will face each other for a place in the quarter finals, followed by semifinals and the grand finale under lights. The tournament will be spread for 9 hours each day that is from 1pm-10pm.
