Mumbai and Nashik in Junior Boys’ Quarters

13th February 2018, Palghar: Mumbai and Nashik have joined the likes of  Jalgaon, Pune, Nagpur, Thane, Solapur, and Kolhapur in the quarter-finals of the ongoing Maharashtra Inter-District State Junior Boys Championship, which is being held in Palghar. Only two matches were played today – Mumbai faced Satara while Amravati encountered Nashik.

Pre-Quarters: Mumbai (Johnson Mathews 3′, 61′ & 64′, Aman Gaikwad 39′ & 53′, Twain Fernandes 22′ and Bhupathi Chandra 37′) 7-0 Satara

In the first game of the day, Mumbai thumped Satara 7-0 to progress into the quarter-final of Inter-District Junior Boys Championship in Palghar. This thumping win has put up Mumbai District against Thane District which will be played tomorrow.

Captain Johnson Matthews scored a fine hat-trick while Aman Gaikwad scored twice for Mumbai. Twain Fernandes and Bhupati Chandra also got on the scoresheet in an astounding 7-0 win over Satara.

Pre-Quarters –  Amravati (Aniket Yadav 10′) 1-1 Nashik (Rhytm Kasliwal 69′) – Nashik won 4-3 via penalties

In the second and last match of the day, Nashik breeze past Amravati 4-3 via penalties after the match ended 1-1 in normal time. It was quite a respond from Nashik who conceded very early in the game and had to equalize at the very last minute.

Aniket Yadav had given Amravati a fine lead in the 10th minute before Rhythm Kasliwal equalized for Nashik in the 69th minute which took the match into penalties. Nashik held their nerves in the shootout to prevail into the next round and set up a clash against Jalgaon.

Quarter-Final fixtures:

Pune vs Solapur, Kolhapur Vs Nagpur, Mumbai vs Thane and Jalgaon vs Nashik.
