MDFA – WCG make semis without much ado

Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana WCG), Santacruz did not have to break into sweat to qualify for the semi-finals. They received a walk-over from PIFA Colaba, who were unable to field the required number of seven players for their First  Division play-off match of the MDFA (Mumbai District Football Association) League 2012-13, at the St. Xavier’s ground, Parel, on Tuesday afternoon.

The Santacruz outfit, who were scheduled to play their concluding play-off match, were awarded three goals and three points, which helped to take their tally to 10  points. Thus they finished second in Pool-Y behind leaders Springfield SC.

In the second match of the day, Falcons Brothers, Mazagaon dished out some brilliant brand of attacking football to humble Young Guns by a 4-2 margin. Enterprising midfielder Saif Rajwani showed sublime touch and was at his scoring best by firing home all the four goals for the Mazagaon side. Anirudh Shah and Rahul Sachdev got the two goals for the losers.

Results – at St. Xavier’s ground, Parel – First Div: Falcon Brothers, Mazgaon 4 (Saif Rajwani 4) beat Young Guns 2 (Anirudh Shah, Rahul Sachdev), Willingdon Catholic Gymkhana w/o PIFA Colaba.
