The Inter District Football Championship for Maharashtra Sub-Junior Boys kicked off at Palghar on Monday, as Jalgaon, Kolhapur, Thane, Jalna, Mumbai, Prabhani & Sangli successfully cleared the first hurdle to claim their place in the second round of matches.
The Championship began in contrasting fashion as Jalgaon breezed pass Nandurbar in the Championship opener romping to a 3-0 victory, while Jalna needed a penalty shootout to see off a spirited Hingoli outfit after the game was tied at 1-1 during regulation play.
Kolhapur’s Vishwa Shinde scored a superb brace and supported by Prithvi Shendage to beat Satara 3-0, while Thane came from a goal down to beat hosts Palghar 3-2 at end of regulation time.
However the story of the day was the walkovers provided to Mumbai, Parbhani and Sangli over Raigad, Beed & Sangli respectively.
Nashik v Dhule was postponed for the next day.
