Jyoti Mehra’s lone strike give FSI a hard-fought win against Bodyline SC

14th August 2017, Mumbai: In the opening match of WIFA (Western India Football Association) Women’s League – Indian Women’s League (IWL) preliminary round, Football School of India (FSI) faced Bodyline SC at Cooperage Stadium.
In what turned out to be a rain-disrupted match, Football School of India (FSI) displayed grit and determination to overcome Bodyline SC 1-0, courtesy of Jyoti Mehra’s strike in the 55th minute.
Both the sides started off brightly right from the kick-off. An end to end match made sure the spectators are glued to their seats.
Midway into the first-half, Bodyline SC was awarded a penalty after a brilliant counter attacking move. Experienced midfielder Aditi Shetty stepped up but only to see her penalty brilliantly saved by FSI Goalkeeper Ankita Shinde.
FSI’s Captain Pranali Shetty had a brilliant game. The number 10 made a number of key passes and dictated the play from the midfield. The first-half ended 0-0 with both the sides missing key chances towards the end of the half.
The second-half turned out to be quite entertaining. Superb saves, brilliant moves, injuries, and of course, the deciding goal.
The Bodyline SC’s trio of Rhea Rodrigues, Kimberly Fernandez and Karen Pais had a decent game but couldn’t break into FSI’s strong defence.
In the 55th minute, FSI’s Jyoti Mehra received a long ball on the right flank. The number 9 took the advantage of the on-rushing Bodyline SC goalkeeper to lob over her to make it 1-0.
Later in the second-half, Karen Pais’ pinpoint through ball was brilliantly cleared by FSI Custodian Ankita Shetty. FSI’s defence stood firm and strong to take all three points and kick-start their campaign on a winning note.
