Day 3 – Quarterfinals Maharashtra State (WIFA) Inter-District Football Championship for Senior Women 2024-25

Pune vs Nagpur
Pune started the match on a positive note with an attacking mindset despite the poor pitch conditions. Tanvi Kore’s long-range effort dipped into the goal, giving Pune a 1-0 lead before halftime. The second half began with the same attacking intent, and Ritika Singh doubled the lead. Nagpur struggled to make a comeback. A cross from the right flank struck a Nagpur defender’s hand, and the referee awarded a penalty. However, Sanika Deshpande’s spot-kick hit the woodwork. Minutes later, she made amends by scoring from a free-kick, sealing a comfortable 3-0 win for Pune.

Mumbai vs Kolhapur
All four of Mumbai’s goals came from set-pieces in a match full of excitement and drama. Both teams started brightly, but Mumbai took the lead through a free-kick from Samiksha Shetty. The second goal came from a corner by Nishika Prakash, which was initially headed by a Kolhapur defender; on the rebound, Bhumika struck it into the net. Nishika then scored Mumbai’s third with a long-range free-kick. Kolhapur pulled one back before halftime through Sanika Patil, making it 3-1.

In the second half, both teams played with aggression. In the 70th minute, Shreya Kaup dribbled past the goalkeeper, but a sliding challenge from Kolhapur’s Sanika stopped a clear goal-scoring opportunity. The defender was shown a red card, and Mumbai were awarded a penalty, which Nishika converted with ease. Later, Aditi from Mumbai was also sent off for a reckless challenge and violent conduct. The match ended 4-1 in Mumbai’s favour.

Yavatmal and Ahmednagar delivered dominant performances, defeating Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar 4-0 and Gondia 5-0, respectively, to book their spots in the semifinals.
