Bombay Gymkhana Colts went down fighting to Hugh Fernandes Academy (HFA), Bandra by a solitary second half goal in a Division-III play-off match of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) league, played at the St Xavier’s ground, Parel on Wednesday afternoon.
In an encounter which saw the exchanges evenly matched, the Bandra youngsters managed to take the lead through the efforts of Prathik Pandhare early in the second period. Thereafter, they defended doggedly to defend their 1-0 lead to emerge victors.
In another play-off match, West Zone United got the better of Indian Tigers 3-2 via the tie-breaker after both teams failed to produce a goal during regulation period. Bharat Ghei, Leon D’Souza and Elvin Nandalal found success for West Zone, while Indian Tigers scored through Kailesh Thamankar and Noel Kadampathi.
