On 21st September 2020, India will host the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup. Previously in 2017, India organized the U-17 Men’s World Cup.
To prepare for the big event, the Indian Women’s U-17 team is taken to exposure trips. Recently, the India U-17 girls guided by Mr. Alex Ambrose, have earned three consecutive four-goal victories in their three matches in Hong Kong, beating Hong Kong U-23 (5-1), Tai Po TBC (4-0), and Citizen AA (5-1).
Furthermore, the AIFF is conducting a preparatory camp at Goa. The federation has chosen the best 34 talents from the nation to take part in this camp. Amongst the selected candidates, there are 4 Maharashtrians chosen to prepare for the grand stage. Priyanka Sujeesh (DF), Sai Sankhe (MF), Anjali Barke (GK), Sundaram Gia (FW) are the four young prospects to get a chance from the state for the national camp.
This is big news for the state. Mr. Sauter Vaz, the Hon. Secretary of WIFA quoted, “This is a positive result. The association is taking regular initiatives for women’s football. If things fall in place, we will have more players coming up from the state and represent the national side in the coming future”.
Former Indian National Team player and the CEO of WIFA, Mr. Henry Menezes said, “Our strategy for women’s football has started to show results.”
This is the first time, the U-17 Indian Women’s football team is going to take part in such a large affair. Hence there are active measures taken by the AIFF to ensure the best facilities and game time is provided to the young team.
The camp is going to take place in Goa from 30th July to 01st September 2019 in preparation for the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup 2020.
