Fresh from a humiliating (3-0) defeat at the hands of a lowly-placed ONGC, Shillong Lajong FC will face an uphill task when they host an in-form Pune FC here at the JN Sports Complex, on Saturday (December 29) afternoon.
Lajong have not been having a good time of late and in their last three matches they have managed to gather only two points. On the other hand, Pune FC are having a gala time as they are now placed third in the points table with 23 points and looks invincible.
“We will play to our potential and we will try to get a good result here,” said visiting head coach Derrick Pereira.
Though the temperature is hovering below 10 degree Celsius, Pereira is not ready to take that as a disadvantage. In fact, he went on to say that the weather will help good football.
“The weather is perfect for good football and it won’t be a problem for us to adopt. In fact, Pune’s minimum temperature is more or less the same,” he added.
On Thursday, Shillong’s maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded as 18.0 degree Celsius and 5.9 degree Celsius.
The turnout can be little disappointing for the home team on Saturday as the local fans are dejected with the current form of Lajong.
Lajong coach Desmond Bulpin has a lot of work to do especially in the defence line. In most of the cases, they have conceded a goal due to hapless defence. The lack of coordination in the defence line has been a disease for them throughout the season and the forward line has failed to deliver when it mattered the most.
The kick-off is at 2.00pm.
