The Maharashtra State (WIFA) Inter-District Sub Junior Girls Championship 2025–26 concluded successfully with Mumbai emerging as the champions after an outstanding campaign. The tournament witnessed exciting matches, determined performances, and exceptional talent from districts across Maharashtra.
Day 1
The championship kicked off with eight scheduled matches, producing several thrilling encounters.
The opening match between Raigad and Satara ended in a 1-1 draw after regulation time. The winner was decided through a penalty shootout, where Raigad held their nerve to secure a 3-2 victory.
Ahmednagar registered a comfortable 2-0 win over Ratnagiri. Although Ratnagiri fought hard, they were unable to stage a comeback.
Thane defeated Solapur 2-0 in an end-to-end contest. Despite creating opportunities, Solapur failed to capitalize on their chances.
Jalgaon also recorded a 2-0 victory over Nandurbar.
Meanwhile, Dhule, Jalna, Yavatmal, and Kolhapur were awarded walkover victories after their respective opponents failed to report for their matches.
Day 2
Day 2 featured closely contested knockout fixtures.
Jalna faced Yavatmal, with Yavatmal edging the contest 1-0 to advance.
Kolhapur secured a narrow 1-0 victory to book their place in the quarter-finals.
Ahmednagar and Dhule played out a goalless draw before Ahmednagar won 2-0 in the penalty shootout.
Thane produced an impressive display against Raigad, claiming a dominant 3-0 victory.
Quarter-Finals
The quarter-finals showcased some outstanding football.
Pune delivered one of the performances of the tournament, defeating Ahmednagar 6-0 in a one-sided contest.
Palghar’s attacking unit was in sensational form as they defeated Yavatmal 5-0 to progress comfortably.
Mumbai overcame a resilient Thane side with a hard-fought 1-0 victory.
Kolhapur advanced to the semi-finals after receiving a walkover against Nagpur.
Semi-Finals
The first semi-final between Palghar and Pune was an intense battle played in difficult rainy and muddy conditions. Both teams created opportunities but failed to find the breakthrough, and the match finished 0-0 after regulation time. The winner was decided through a dramatic penalty shootout in which all eleven players from both teams took penalties. Palghar eventually emerged victorious 7-6 to book their place in the final.
In the second semi-final, Mumbai produced a commanding performance, defeating Kolhapur 4-0 to secure their place in the championship match.
Grand Finale
The much-awaited final between Mumbai and Palghar lived up to expectations. Mumbai dominated proceedings from the outset, creating numerous scoring opportunities and converting them clinically. Their disciplined defence and attacking quality proved too strong as they defeated Palghar 4-0.
With this convincing victory, Mumbai were crowned the Champions of the Maharashtra State (WIFA) Inter-District Sub Junior Girls Championship 2025–26. Palghar finished as the runners-up after an excellent tournament, while Pune emerged 3rd place and Kolhapur completed the top four.
The championship successfully showcased the immense talent, determination, and sportsmanship of Maharashtra’s young footballers, promising a bright future for women’s football in the state.
