The Maharashtra State Youth League 2022-23 concluded with a thrilling display of talent, determination, and exceptional football skills. Mumbai City FC emerged as the undisputed champions, while Mumbai School Sports Association (MSSA) secured the runner-up position, making it an exhilarating competition from start to finish.
Mumbai City FC dominated the league, showcasing their prowess and consistency throughout the season. Topping Group A with an impressive record of 9 wins and 1 draw in 10 games, they carried their form into the play-off round, triumphing in all 5 matches. Their unbeaten streak remained intact as they scored a staggering 63 goals while conceding a mere 3. Leading the charge in the goal-scoring department were Jess Bhobe and Ayaan Maniar, who treated spectators with their exceptional skills, netting 16 and 15 goals respectively.
MSSA demonstrated their strength and resilience, securing the runner-up position in the league. With an impressive tally of 12 points from a possible 15, they finished behind the formidable Mumbai City FC. Malsom Tuboi, the star player of MSSA, left an indelible mark on the competition by finishing as the top scorer with an impressive haul of 23 goals.
The tournament also witnessed the emergence of exceptional individual talent. Neville Pereira from Reliance Foundation Young Champs (RFYC) was honored as the Player of the tournament. Throughout the league, Pereira’s striking abilities and consistent performances shone brightly, earning him 5 man of the match awards and establishing himself as one of the league’s top performers.
