NEW DELHI: A sterling performance by the Indian U-17 World Cup Squad embedded with guile and finesse saw them defeat German opposition DFI Bad Aibling 2-1 on Thursday (July 30, 2015) in Germany.
The Indian colts sealed the fate of the match in the dying embers of the match by taking the lead, after heading into the injury time on level pegging.
Albeit the first half witnessed a heated battle for possession and was goalless, it was the Indian colts who came agonizingly close in opening the goal scoring tally of the match.
First, a routine corner-kick scenario by the Indian contingent, which was finished off with a well-worked shot on target was saved by the German goalkeeper. Then a free-kick earned by the colts in an exciting position flew inches wide of its intended target.
Changing over, and the Colts showcased attacking fluidity with defensive solidity as they initiated regular attacks on the opposition’s citadel.
An array of tacky passes saw Ninthoi onto goal in the 55th minute, whose shot however was saved by the German goalkeeper. Next, Aniket’s stinger of an effort was saved once again by the German custodian. And minutes later Jitu rattled the opposition bar by a thunderous effort, only to assert the attacking intent of the Indian colts.
Crafty constant attacks were bound to pierce through the German defence line sooner or later. And in the 77th minute it did, when Suresh scored from a long throw-in.
Although the German opposition equalized their deficit seconds later, by a long-range effort, the Indian colts regrouped themselves and mounted waves of attacks on the opposition.
Finesse alongwith sterling attacking moves and tacky passes reaped benefits for the Indian contingent in the dying embers of the match, when Aniket converted a glitzy passing move to give the Indian colts a grandeur lead and a well-worked 2-1 win over their German opponents.
