Continuing their good form, Maharashtra registered their 2nd win of the campaign in as many games to go on top of Group F table of Hero U17 Women’s National Football Championship
Goals on either side of the half were enough as Maharashtra secure a hard-fought 2-0 win over Chandigarh in their 2nd group game of Hero U17 Women’s National Football Championship.
Coming on from a massive 6-0 win against Tripura in their opening group game, Maharashtra faced off against a struggling Chandigarh outfit who are yet to win a point in the competition. Slowly as the game wore on, Maharashtra started imposing themselves and was soon rewarded with a goal in the dying minutes of the first half. In the 44th minute of the game, Striker Soumaiya Shaikh set up midfielder Pooja Gupta to break the deadlock as Maharashtra went to break with a 1-0 lead.
In the second half, both sides continued to play a cagey game with Chandigarh looking for an equalizer while Maharashtra aiming for more goals.
Just like the first half, Maharashtra were rewarded for their persistence in the attack as they managed to draw a foul inside the Chandigarh Box winning a penalty. Striker Purva Gaikwad stepped up to take the spot-kick converting it comfortably to double the lead.
With this win Maharashtra top the Group F table with 6 points in two games
