Mumbai Warriors Soccer Club defeated Auxilium High School (Goa) by 2-0 in extra-time to lift the Under-14 SPT Junior 5s All India Futsal tournament played at the SPT Sports Academy, Sarjapur Road, Bengaluru on Sunday.
After goalless in full time, both teams headed into extra time where Santosh Suthar and Ashley Koli scored a goal each to hand the Mumbai based team their first silverware since the inception of the club. Crowd dominated the teams right from the group stages.
In the first round, they were pitted in the same group as DPFC (Delhi) and home team SPT (Bengaluru). In first match they defeated DPFC 2-0 riding on the goals by Sarthak Debnath and Ashley Koli. In the following match, they held DPT to a 1-1 draw with Santosh Suthar scoring the equalizer.
In the pre-quarters, Mumbai Warriors SC walloped ISST Academy (Pune) 11-1 to progress through last eight. Sarthak Debnath scored eight goals which
the rout. In quarters, MWSC once again were the in form team as they outclassed Pune United Football Academy by 5-0. Striker Sarthak Debnath scoring a hat-trick with Parthak Nachankar and Ashley Koli finishing with goal a piece.
In semi-final, MWSC were given close fight by Living Hope (Bengaluru) as they were held to 1-1 after full time. The away team eventually showed their class as they progressed in final by winning the penalty shoot-out.
In final, Auxilium School gave a tough fight to MWSC as there were no goals at the full time whistle. In extra time, Santosh Suthar and Ashley Koli came to the rescue to help Mumbai Warriors SC win the title. They were handed the sparkling trophy along with the prize money. Sarthak Debnath finished with 12 goals as he was handed the golden boot trophy while Mangesh Desai was adjudged the best coach of the Under-14 category.
