Mumbai Retains WIFA Inter-District Sub-Junior Boys Title in thrilling championship final

Shirpur, Dhule District, Maharashtra – [May 30, 2025] – Mumbai has once again asserted its dominance in youth football, successfully retaining their Maharashtra State (WIFA) Inter-District Sub-Junior Boys Championship title.

In a highly anticipated final, Mumbai defeated Thane with a convincing 2-0 victory, a repeat of last season’s final, where Mumbai had triumphed over Thane 3-0, and Pune secured third place by beating Palghar.

The decisive goals for Mumbai in the final were scored by Anaay Saraf and Neel, sealing their championship win. Mumbai’s journey to the final was a testament to their resilience, as they were pushed to a penalty shootout by a tenacious Palghar team in the semi-finals after a goalless draw. Thane, on the other hand, had overcome Pune with a narrow 1-0 victory in their semi-final clash, setting up a thrilling finale.

Earlier in the day, Pune secured the third-place spot, defeating Palghar 2-1. Om was the hero for Pune, scoring a crucial brace, while Chinmay netted the solitary goal for Palghar.

The tournament also recognized outstanding individual talents: Nihar Nambiar of Thane was awarded the Best Goalkeeper, while Mumbai’s Anaay Saraf was deservedly named the Player of the Tournament, capping off an impressive championship run.
