Hugh Fernandes Academy (HFA) sailed into the semifinals by virtue of their hard-fought 1-0 win against a spirited Athens SC in a Division-III play-off match, of the Mumbai District Football Association (MDFA) league, played at the St Xavier’s ground, Parel on Friday afternoon.
After a barren opening session, Chintamani Myatrywar struck the all-important winning goal in the 48th minute for the winners. After having taken the lead the young academy lad defended well to seal their win and their passage to the semis.
HFA will take on Blitzkrieg FC in the next round, while Chheda Nagar SC clash with West Zone United in the other semi-final.
Later in the day, BEST registered an identical solitary goal victory over Super Soccer School in a Division-II encounter. Striker Joaquim D’Souza netted the lone goal of the match in the 46th minute.
In a Division-I clash, D.K. Pharma outplayed Chemburites 4-1 with Emmanuel Atiwadekar striking three times and S Unbre once. Ashish Shirdenkar scored the consolation goal for the losers.
Results – Div-I: D.K. Pharma 4 (Emmanuel Atiwadekar 3, S Unbre) beat Chemburites 1 (Ashish Shirdenkar).
Div-II: BEST 1 (Joaquim D’Souza) beat Super Soccer School 0.
